One of the sad things about re-publishing a book (first by Sheed Ward in 1960, now by Sophia Institute in 2017) is that the product, for all practical purposes, appears to be very recent. It is an older perspective of Christ's Passion and Death. Simply put, there is much more known today about this subject matter, so I would suggest that since the new publisher does not make that clear on the cover (it is only when you open to the first few pages and see the Imprimatur was granted in 1959) that this is a bit deceptive. It's sad to pay money for material that, which never is truly outdated, it can be updated - as one disappointed customer describes about the information revealed very recently about the Shroud of Turin. I find myself noting facts that I have read from other more recent biblical exegeses of the Holy Bible by popular Catholic authors that present a much more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Much more is known today archaeologically than in 1959. That's 59 years ago! I don't know that I would buy it again, but I will finish it since I paid for it.

I initially bought this book with the intention of nursing it as my Lenten read. The book was so engaging, I found myself staying up hours after my normal sleep time just to read "one more chapter." The book is filled with deep insights that remain true to the gospel without pandering to sentimentality. It presents a stark glimpse into the electric charged political atmosphere of Jerusalem at the time. It also presents a touching glimpse into Jesus' last hours. When the tomb is sealed at the books end, I found myself longing for the Resurrection, the true purpose of The Passion. The book truly drew me closer to the sacrifice our Lord and Saviour endured for our sins.It is an absolute must read.

This book is as good as any book have read on this subject. I was continually amazed at the new ideas and historical way the book dealt with this most significant event. I found myself saying to people, “Did you know that....” about several passages from the book. I have placed many markers in the book for later reference. The book is not only about the time period but traces ideas back to the Old Testament as well as relating their importance to us today. It deals with the people and groups involved and what they were thinking and how that prompted their actions. It also discusses the place of and the how of this awful act against the Lord.The writing style is concise and easily understood. It is a great introduction or is viable for someone who has extensive experience with the topic. I recommend this book highly!

bought this edition because is very similar to the 6th edition. Real estate teacher said it was ok to use in class.It does not include some new charts but the basic information is still there.

It was in fair condition. It was the correct book for the class. I am satisfied overall.

For most readers this is a useful, easy to read book providing a broad reaching overview of the most important factors that influence real estate markets. Unfortunately it's offered and priced as a "text book". I'm not convinced it should be used as a college text; excepting perhaps local community college, junior college, or vocational school levels. If you're seeking graduate level analysis of current economic trends and their effect on the present day real estate markets- this might not be in depth enough for your needs. This cost the rating one star.Again the title is "ESSENTIALS of Real Estate Economics". For more about the organization and layout of the book please also see the informative review written here by Risfan Munir. You'll also find Amazon offers "Look Inside" for a helpful preview.I've been interested in my local state's real estate markets for decades beginning my study thirty years back. It's now also my career. From that perspective, I find the latest edition of this book (sixth edition, 2010-2011) a well written overview of the primary factors that govern Real Estate Markets. I admit before the book arrived, I was online reading as much as was available through excerpts. Almost immediately I realized this is the first book written on economics that held my interest to such a degree and for that: Hats off to the Authors. While it devotes the entire first part of the book to very elementary explanations of capitalism and driving economic factors, there are probably many students and readers requiring this foundation. Its well organized and the writing style flows smoothly. Each Part and Chapter offers just enough specific information to keep a reader interested and learning. The "Case and Point" add-ins are current, topical and informative fun reading also. They are however USA topical only, probably useless to a reader in another country.Another great attribute separating this particular book from others on the subject are chapters devoted to regional and community development analysis, growth patterns, and land use patterns. Few Economics texts are organized in such a comprehensive manner as this; Examination of factors which impact past present and future trends; from global economic capitalism and monetary systems to the local community growth pattern examinations. After reading this, I feel any other interested reader can glean either a well-rounded over view of each major aspect of global capitalist economy that intersects Real Estate economy, or a more in depth understanding of any of the particular aspects involved.If you're an investor, planner, public servant, real estate broker, related real estate industry service provider and business owner or even an information junkie looking to garner an in depth understanding of the items determining Real Estate markets, I recommend this read. For average readers who haven't already earned an M.B.A. or graduate level degree in economics, this book provides a well-organized, excellent overview of the subject. Moreover if you're an active citizen involved in political processes governing your local land use laws, it's a great idea for you to do your homework obtaining background knowledge prior to taking a stance for or against changes in your region.

This product is exactly what they promoted, and It came to my house very quickly. I gave it 4 stars because i like the product and the shipment was accurate and quickly.

I was assigned this book. It is scary, because it is woefully inaccurate. Its viewpoint is showing, and it is not nice. Just a few examples: it devotes glowing pages (74 and 75)to Arthur Laffer and his Laffer curve, even though his theories are now laughed at (and Laffer scoffed at the idea that mortgage backed securities had anything to do with the recent economic collapse- sort of an important omission in a book about RE economics). The book calls crackpot economist Henry George "famous" (p 352), although no economist I know has heard of him, and Wikipedia notes he is not well known among economists. The chapter on building codes is 100% wrong. (I am a former building code official.) The book states property taxes are regressive(!)and refers to an obscure article from the Heritage Foundation - which if you look it up, actually disagrees with this conclusion. The book says socialist societies are run on slave labor, and capitalist ones aren't. Excuse me, ever heard of the Civil War??? The US, capitalist economy was originally based on slavery!Every page is appalling. How this got published is beyond me.

I've been waiting for a book like this for longer than I would like to admit. Ed speaks to the humanity in each of us. I particularly like the idea of treating new sobriety as a child that needs to be cherished and cared for. This book makes me genuinely excited for a new life without alcohol. Never thought I would say that.

I wish I had this book years ago when I was battling my demons. Reading this book, solidified the exact thought process behind why I completely stopped drinking. Ed writes in an educational and conversational style, makes valid points, and provides actionable insights for anyone looking to overcome their demons. You don't have to be an alcoholic, even the "casual drinker" may benefit from some eye-opening arguments raised by the author in this book.

I'm 25 and doing well in my career but developed a bad drinking habit after "leaving the church" I was raised in at 22 years old. For the last few years, I was drunk most nights and always avoided the reality that I have an alcohol problem but decided recently I was ready to make a change. Coincidentally, a friend tweeted something about this book. I was scared to purchase it because that meant I accepted I have an issue and couldn't ignore it any longer. Well I'm so so grateful I purchased the book. Truly life-changing! I can tell I'll probably re-read this every month this year. It's so simple to read and so clear with direction and practicals to put into place.

This is a practical guide to think through and meditate on with the points made here about alcohol abuse.I've found AA sessions too often turn into personal stories and unfocused ramblings. This book is focused and allows the reader to integrate his own reflections on the themes presented. I will definitely be re-reading this and revisting as needed.

This book was a great intro to one mans journey to defeating alcoholism and channeling that energy into more productive facets of his life. Excellent tips for success in social situations that tempt us all.

I am talking about kindle version. this book is full of typos. I told amazon to revise this book but it is still same.Do not buy this book, it is worthless. Prabhat prakashan and amazon are kidding us.

Just a quick note: I recently reread this when I was reminded of the complexities of the Spanish Civil War by a magazine article. The book did what I dimly remembered it did: it showed the local, human dimension of the war rather than the history book battle of ideologies we usually see. What I hadn’t remmbered was the subtlety and complexity of the love story. I’ve always thought Hemingway’s ability to present love has been underrated by many people who prefer to focus on the unwillingness of many of his characters to talk about their feelings. It’s true, his characters generally don’t have much to say on the subject, and even their inner monologues tend to be sparse, but Hemingway still manages to express his characters’ deep, vital and nuanced feelings. I think the lack of verbiage is part a reflection of the view expressed by many of his characters that it doesn’t do to talk about significant things too much and part the simple fact that the characters themselves don’t understand what they’re feeling.Hemingway was a fabulous writer, and much of his work, though clearly rooted in his time period, still stands up to scrutiny today.

The kindle edition I read was a "knock-off" Hemingway. The text was weird and not lined up. When there was an obvious expletive in the dialogue, it actually was deleted and the word "obscenity" was placed.

The Kindle version of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is not very good. I don’t know if that is because it is an abridged version like other reviewers claim or whether it’s just not a good story. If the Kindle version is indeed abridged, I would have expected Amazon.com to alert buyers that it was so. Basically, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is the story of a critical mission by a band of rebels accompanied by an American sympathizer fighting for the Republic against the Fascists in Spain during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The rebels’ mission was to blow up a bridge, but the interplay among the characters leading up to the attack dominate the story.

Having begun to "read into" Hemingway a bit, one begins to realise that everything about his style, including the lack of correct grammar, (as well as being the first writer to use the contracted form in literature, as everybody knows), has to do with conveying the feeling and the atmosphere of the places he is writing about, The more you read him, the more you read him, kind of thing. Hemingway's ability to create emotion and atmosphere that "takes you there", where the action is, is surprising, to say the least. Another: "can't put it down".book.A good read! For those who don't already know Hemingway.

Be careful what you purchase. This edition is abridged and disgraceful. Papa would not be proud.

I read in amazement, knowing of Hemingway 's fame I still felt surprise at his writing ability. When I read his Paris book he would return to his wife after a long day of writing by longhand. I now understand how difficult that must have been: to constantly be thinking of and feeling the tiny details while laboriously writing each word.This story of the Spanish civil war comes to the reader with such descriptive details that one can feel the dirt on their clothes and under the fingernails, and the cold dew of the morning. After all it is the details which causes a book to be readable and believable.

JOHN DONNEIf you haven't noticed, I read a lot of Hemingway. The reason for this is that I enjoy (even more) a textbook about him that was written by a Princeton Professor, Carlos Baker. He understands Hemingway and shares that knowledge in a way that shows the artfulness of the writer. He diagrams the novels in the same way that my grade school teachers taught me to diagram sentences (noun, verb, adverb and subject, object of the preposition, adjectives and compound sentences, etc.). Using this textbook I am learning how a writer approaches a novel (as an artist would); hence the title, "HEMINGWAY, the writer as artist". It is one of my favorite books and has been for more than ten years.For Whom the Bell Tolls (FWBT) was published in 1940, but the notes for it were taken during '37, '38 '39. It speaks of the loyalist fighting against fascism in Spain. His detractors called Hemingway a 'Stalinist' or a 'Fascist' at the extremes, but he was neither. He was simply anti-fascist. He thought that fascism killed art and literature. It was just that easy for him to pick a side.His novel is broad in scope and speaks garishly of the cruel killings by both sides.He goes into great detail of an incident in which the 'loyalists' torture and kill local fascist shop owners, blowhards, idiots, city officials and priests in a way that is foreign to any experience of my sheltered life. Hemingway shocks the reader by writing the details of killing in a way that reminds us of a bull fight, or the running of the bulls at Pamplona. This chapter is hard to read. It is so cruel. I can only image what it was like with his expletives at full volume. Artistically it compares with Picasso's 'Guernica' which reminds the world of the insane bombing of that Spanish market town by NAZI fascists. (with loss of life estimated at 1,650)

This book is agreat way to learn French. I really enjoyed this book! I’ve been learning French for a couple of months now, but lately I’ve been struggling with comprehension. These stories were easy to understand and had helpful vocabulary in them. I was able to improve both my comprehension and pronunciation as well. This is a great buy if you’re looking to take your French to the next level.

This is a great idea, but the stories are difficult to get through if you truly are a complete beginner, like we are.

I love the layout of this book. The short sections are easy to review and just the right length to keep a feeling of momentum. I also really appreciate the inclusion of phrases and grammar structures in the vocab lists. Great for someone with only a very basic knowledge of French.

This book is very deceptive and it is demoralizing. The title of the book is, "30 French Stories for Complete Beginners." Well, I looked up several words that I didn't know and the frequency of those words were usually well beyond the top 3,000 used words. I'm attaching a picture of a zoomed in portion of one page. There is a lot cut off as to not infringe upon the author's copyrights. So, let's be clear, I would think that a book written for complete beginners would focus on vocabulary words that fell below the 2,000 most frequently used words in French. I gave it a 2 because the audio that accompanies it is a nice touch and easily downloadable. However, other than that, it's pretty disappointing. I'd say this is written more for B2 students. Stay away if you're A1 or A2. Give it a shot if you're B1....

I liked the vocabulary that helps you before each story that helps you follow along. It’s also helps you see how the language is formatted differently from English.

we promised ourselves that this would be the only wedding book/magazine etc we'd spend money on, just to have a little something to commemorate the planning process. that being said, it's a lovely book- but completely unnecessary. you know that little thing called Pinterest? yeah, use that. we are very happy with the purchase though, definitely more of a sentimental than functional buy for us.

I like the book but when it was delivered the cover was torn in several places. It looks terrible and I ended up just taking it off.

This is such an amazing book for the avid wedding planner and the rustic styled bride! Maggie does an amazing job putting together rustic styled weddings in a easy to look and read format. This is a book that you will want to hold onto for a long time!
