Planning on moving to Spokane in April of 2019, I've visited there with my grandparents since the 60's so I know the town from way back then but I didn't know any of the history of the bridges that cross the Spokane River, Very informative, I bet even most of the residents of Spokane don't know this information, too bad for them.
We bought this for my parents, age 90 and 78. They have lived in Spokane all their lives, and loved reading this book. It brought back great memories for them. Thank you!
This interesting book tells about Spokane's bridges. The last chapter in this book tells about Spokane, WA being the host city for the Expo 1974 World's Fair. Here is some of the interesting information that this book mentions in it: One of Spokane's major periods of growth was from 1900 to 1915. By 1910, Spokane had a population of 104,000. The World's Fair that came to Spokane in 1974 was known simply as Expo 74. The Great Northern station was torn down. However, the clock tower remained and continues to be the focal point in Riverfront Park today. What was the State Pavilion is now the home of the Spokane Opera House. The U.S. Pavilion still stands today minus the canopy and is the main focal point within Riverfront Park. The World's Fair in 1974 ran from May through September 1974 with more than five million visitors. Spokane was the smallest city to ever host a World Fair event until the World Fair was held in Knoxville, TN in 1982. Riverfront Park is a park that was created from the remnants of the 1974 World's Fair in Spokane, WA.
