About the Author

William Wongso is a household name in Indonesia, known for his culinary expertise and the popular TV show William Wongso's Culinary Adventures. His pursuit to master his country's traditional cuisines began in 1972 with the opening of a bakery in downtown Jakarta, and continues today, in his role as chef and restauranteur. Through the years, Wongso's persistent hunger for more knowledge and skills has taken him to the great culinary schools around the world, including Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and the 'Ecole des Arts Culinaires et de l'Hotellerie in Lyon. He has also held the roles of President of the Indonesian chapter of the international gastronomic society Chaine des Rotisseurs, and President of the Jakarta chapter of the International Wine and Food Society. Wongso serves as a culinary adviser to Garuda Indonesia and leads the Food Diplomacy Program endorsed by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Trade. Part of the mission of the program is to bring 30 Indonesian traditional culinary icons onto the global stage. I recently returned from two wonderful weeks in Indonesia and thought it would be great to put together a dinner party based on my experiences. I took a chance on this book, although it had not been reviewed yet, based upon a glowing review from Anthony Bourdain. Here is what he said "thrilling, enjoyable, and essential reading." I guess it's my own fault for not noticing that "cooking" is not mentioned. This is more of a reference book than a cookbook. It's more about reading than cooking. It goes 117 pages before it gets to the first recipe, and there are only about 35 recipes included.If I were a TV chef, thinking about opening an Indonesian restaurant, this book might earn a spot on my shelf because of it's extensive discussion of ingredients and its useful, if breezy, discussion of the various Indonesian provinces. But for my purposes, I'd like to see a chapter on each province with the food of that province covered in a whole lot of recipes. I'd like to be able to construct a whole meal from each province.

Had really high expectations from his book but it fell a little flat to me. I've met him in person a few years ago and he is really knowledgeable in Indonesian cooking which is why I started reading more about Indonesian cuisine. I have purchased other Indonesian recipe books and found them to be more informative and complete than this one. Flavors of Indonesia is at best a very nice food photography book, the information in it isn't anymore informative than other Indonesian cooking books that have been written years before. I would like to see more recipes than the handful thats in here and to go more in depth about the people and regions of Indonesia and their food specifics.

This manual is seriously lacking if you have a (96 F150).If you need generic engine specs and torque lbs it's great .The Haynes /Chilton use to group the years where not much, if anything changed.So you would get a pretty good manual with exploded views of assemblies and a decent schematic.I really can't even call this a repair manual.I am so glad I bought it used...Don't pay $20+ dollars for this manual it is not worth it.Maybe if you have a 80's model.The sellers were great, fast shipping and excellent condition for a used manual.

For others looking to purchase these manuals-- here's what came as a surprise to me:This was my second attempt to purchase this manual. My first purchase was a failed Christmas gift that showed up 2 weeks late-- from a different seller-- that sent the wrong book--red cover, hand sketched F250 on the front, and only covered up to model year 1991 (Our truck is a 1996).When I opened this package from this seller, Clean Earth Books, I was worried because lo' and behold-- there was a red cover, hand sketched F250, but the model years covered were up to 1996. Upon further investigation, the copyright date from my first purchase was from 1992, and this one was up to 1997. The earlier copyrights contain the same core material as the newer copyrights and at some point Haynes switched it completely to the blue cover with the actual vehicle photo.So don't be surprised if you order this and receive an older copy--but make sure your older copy, does, in fact, cover your vehicle. The copyright from 1997 is a chunkier catalog than the 1992--so you know information was added. However, the SKU #'s on the older and the newer editions are the same.It leaves one to wonder if the newset "blue cover" is still a chunkier manual than the preceding red ones...

COMPLETELY useless for me. ABS diagnostics and airbag codes aren't even mentioned. I planned to use this as a 'get dirty' shop reference so I could keep my factory manual and electronic versions clean. Half the pages of this book refer to engine rebuilding and tool selection.

I am very much a novice when it comes to vehicle maintenance/repair, but I enjoy and take some pride in doing some of my own maintenance. I purchased this and the corresponding Chilton manual for a recently purchased truck. Since purchasing the manuals a few months ago, I have only done basic maintenance... changed the oil and filter, replaced the spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, and air filter, but when I have questions, I find myself gravitating toward this manual over the Chilton. The layout seems more straightforward. Things are where I expect them to be, and I have an easier time finding what I'm looking for. The troubleshooting section at the beginning is a nice place to start. The explanations seem a little more straightforward and easier to understand for an amateur like myself. I'm glad I have both manuals, but I find myself using this one more often.

I was disappointed when I received the book, they sent me the previous edition instead of the one pictured/described. It’s got most of the same information I imagine, but I wouldn’t know because I only have the old one. The books do make it fairly easy to DIY cars. Although it was the wrong book, it was only like $5.

Of all the junk in my driveway that constantly breaks (chevys and dodges) I found it to be a necessity to get a manual for each vehicle. My 22 y/o FORD is the oldest and best out there. It’s literally the ONLY truck I have that hasn’t ever broken down. Basic maintenance is all I’ve ever had to do, but since I got the guides for all the others, I got this one too. They’re fun to read.

Last year I bought a 1989 Ford Bronco. I am not a mechanic in any stretch of the word, so I made sure the Bronco passed an inspection with my mechanic before I bought it. It has ran great this last year, but I have had a few minor issues that are easy enough for a layman to fix, while still being complicated enough to need to know what the heck you are doing. That's where this book came in. It has very detailed information on all types of repairs from an easy tune-up, to an entire overhaul. I have already put this book to good use. Let's just hope I never need to use it for an overhaul :P

Tomie dePaola is the author and illustrator of Strega Nona: Her Story and countless other books. They recently had a conversation about their careers as picture book authors. Tomie dePaola: When I was only four years old, I announced to my family in particular and to the world in general that I was going to become an artist, and write stories and draw pictures for books. I never swayed from that early declaration. I’ve always been curious to know, what inspired you to become a creator and illustrator of picture books? Eric Carle: My career began as a graphic designer and for a number of years I worked as an art director for an advertising agency in New York. In the mid 1960's Bill Martin, Jr. saw an ad of a red lobster that I had designed and asked me to illustrate his Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Well, I was set on fire! I was so inspired by this book, and the opportunity to illustrate it changed my life. After that, I started to create my own books, both words and pictures, and really it was then that I had found my true course in life. Now, I have a question for you, Tomie. How would you describe your artistic style, and has it changed over time? Tomie dePaola: My illustration style is heavily influenced by folk art--strong simple shapes, bold lines, color, color, color and a deceptive simplicity. My style began to develop early in art school, and through the years, it hasn’t changed very much, but it has refined itself. How would you describe yours? Eric Carle: My aim with my work is to simplify and refine, be logical and harmonious. I like to use simple shapes, bright colors and a lot of white space. I write for the child inside of me. That is always where I begin. Tomie dePaola: I do, as well. The only audience I keep in mind is that four-year-old in me. People sometimes ask me what advice I would give to young artists. I read this book to my children and bought it so they can read it to theirs. Wonderful pictures and wonderful story.Strega Nona has a magic pot that makes pasta. It starts with the magic words only she knows and it stops making pasta when she says the ending magic words. Unfortunately, Big Anthony overheard the start words, but not the end magic words and like the BLOB a never ending pot of pasta engulfs the town. Strega Nona returns and deals with Big Anthony and teaches him a lesson he will never forget.My granddaughter loves this book too. And I love reading it to her.

My mother grew up in Italy and Strega Nona (La Befana) was such a big part of her life. My mother grew up very poor and she was always so excited to put her stocking or shoe outside their door and hope and pray she would get an orange or one piece of candy. My mother carried on these traditions with our family and when she got great grandchildren she was always so excited. I highly recommend this book and Tomie De Paola is such an awesome writer. Thank you.

I read this book as a child and loved it. So when I saw it on the shelf at B&N I was thrilled - wasn't so thrilled with the B&N price though. Then I found it on Amazon the price was killer so I picked it up.This story is an excellent example of the cost of "not listening" to important instruction. The boy instructed not to touch the witch's magic cooking pot, does so anyways and is dismayed when mounds and mounds of spaghetti fill the town. When Strega Nona returns and stops the spaghetti, she charges the boy with cleaning up his mess by eat all the spaghetti. It teaches, in a fun way, about unintended consequences to our actions.

I love this story! A classic tale from my childhood that I wanted to pass on to my young ones. The audio CD was a bonus! I love the fun music, but the reading of it is very very slow. Also, the print quality of the book is not very good; it seems like the illustrations were blown up to make a larger book but the quality of the images is grainy and colors are faded.

Best book ever! I've been reading this book for many many years!! My shin who is now 29 his son who is 8 when he was little and now my granddaughter that is 3 and my girls that are now 22 & 17 they ALL enjoy it!!

When our sons were young, we read to them often and then extended their love for reading and stories by playing audio books to them as they were going to sleep at night. Now we have grandchildren and we are seeing them enjoy the same love for reading and stories in like manner. Strega Nona is wonderful story and Tomie dePaola has a pleasing voice to hear as he narrates the story. Our grandchildren love the story and the moments we are spending together are building special memories.

This is, by far, one of my all time favorite books! I remember being read it when I was a child and, after I purchased it for myself and re-read it, got flooded with the memories once again. This is a fantastic book from the mind of Tomie dePaola in which a kind witch, who helps many people in and out of her village, tells her new helper not to use her magical pasta pot while she's away. He doesn't listen and, true to the nature of things, havoc ensues as pasta floods the village. Leave it to Strega Nona to come to the rescue while imparting on him a valuable lesson about listening and learning from your actions. It's a must read :)

We started reading this book (my child is 3.5) a week ago and we have read it almost twice a day ever since. My daughter does not lack for favorite books but the fantastical aspect and the charming humor in this book have certainly captured her attention. She feels the anticipation as the pasta begins to overtake the town, she feels relief when Strega Nona stops the pot with a sputter, and she giggles with glee when Big Anthony's pot belly grows. Sometimes I get tired of reading longer books but I personally love to read this one and animate it with my voice to suit the charming story. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful too and I love sharing a fable from another culture with my daughter. Really a pleasure.

I am 60 years old and never held a banjo, much less play one, until my wife gave me one for Christmas 2013 . For that matter, I've never played any sort of instrument, other than plunk around with my brother's ancient guitar as a kid, which frustrated me and I quit. I can't read a single note of music. This book is amazing and was apparently written specifically for me. The book (and it seems the banjo world as a whole) uses "tablature" diagrams to show you where to hold each string for a note or chord, and does not use music notation. And, fantastic as it is....about 80% of bluegrass uses only three chords, one of which is "G", which is the "open" (unfretted) key that the banjo is tuned to , so that leaves two chords to learn. The book starts off with very simple tunes, the banjo equivalent of "chop sticks" and then adds "rolls", "pinches", "reverse rolls", "slides" and other tricks to add spice to the tune. The book comes with a CD that plays out each lesson and all the variations so you can get instant response....basically it tells you "this is what this lesson should sound like".....note by note....at a pace you can replicate....so you will know whether or not you are doing things right. Bottom line is I was able to play at the pace of the book within a day or two of practice....one tune at a time mind you. I'm on my sixth song....after one month....practicing about 30 minutes a day. I'm far from being any sort of musician, but this book has allowed me to realize the sort of satisfaction that always eluded me as a kid....I can't wait to pick up the banjo each day and push my abilities to the next level. I am really satisfied with this book and the gift that it has brought me.....I guess I'm becoming a musician of sorts....even my wife is excited about the results. I bought several "how to play" books after the banjo arrived, but all the others were too complicated for me....this one really "strikes a chord" in me....and I'll use this one until I've mastered all the tunes. If you're a complete ignoramus like me, you'll really like this book.

First off, I hate the title of this book. I hate any of the "For Dummies," "For Stupidheads," "For Less than Average Intelligence," titles, (just the titles, the content might be awesome). I suppose an Ignoramus isn't that bad. It's really just suggesting I don't know rather than I'm an idiot. But I digress.The beauty of this book is the approach to learning the songs. Bluegrass banjo is cool because it's played as a melody maker that uses a set of common rolls to add to the texture and nuance of the song. Other books explain how to hold a banjo, how to tune it, how to play some rolls, then immediately begin teaching songs that are just out of reach for a beginners skill. This book decreases the learning curve immensely.Wayne's approach breaks the song down to it's bare bones melody notes. Focuses on that, and then amps up the complexity in a set of stages. The result are two fold. First you can play all of the songs. You may not be playing them in the most interesting or entertaining way... yet... but you're making music, playing your banjo and should be having a good time. Second is that you are learning how to create the song - not just mimic the notes. Each level of complexity is more of an encouragement for improvisation rather than just more notes. The results are awesome.

This book is amazing! The way wayne breaks down the songs into simple melodies, then proggressively adds more technique makes it so easy to learn and have fun doing it. Ive struggled for months with other books and have learned more, and enjoyed myself more, having waynes book for just a few days. My book came without a cd. I emailed wayne and he got right back to me and sent the files right over. His youtube videos also help out a ton. To any beginning banjo player you need this book!

This is a very good instructional book for the beginner self taught banjo. In just the first few pages I was given more information that in the first 50 of banjo for dummies. It comes with a CD and that makes it nice so you can hear what you are supposed to be playing and understand the tempo better. My banjo music is getting better and I can tell because there are less howling dogs and cats when I play now.

I have always loved the sound of a banjo and thought it high time I gave it a try. I have no experience with any stringed instrument although I play the trumpet (no help here). The reviews on this book were so excellent I actually bought this book before I bought a banjo to get an idea of its presentation. The book is clear, well written, and easy to follow. Well, now I have a banjo and am having the best of times. The first day I was playing the first song with the two-finger roll, yep, sounding pretty good and, yes, it was easy. Love this book and love my banjo.

Five minutes into reading this book I understood more than I have after years of watching videos. The language he uses is so easy to understand and it's simple in the best ways possible. The cd is easy to follow along with as well. I've already bragged to my sister at what a great buy this is. I'm eager to keep learning now that I have confidence that it's possible.

I recently purchased a Bajo and this book breaks everything you need to know to get you started. I highly recommend anyone to purchase this book. It comes with a instructional CD to help you along the way so that you have a better understanding. When you pick up your banjo pick this book up as well and you will be happy you did!

This is a great way to learn how to play the banjo. I took banjo lessons for 2 years making good progress, but got frustrated because I never heard the melody in the song. Since using this book, I now enjoy playing the banjo and can actually heard and play the melody. The book is easy to follow and it has helped me improve my timing too using the DVD to play along with. I plan on buying other books from Wayne Erbsen.
