These are so fun! I have the original set of Penguin postcards, and they aren’t nearly as good as this sci-fi collection. I think only ten cards from the whole set had Penguin’s usual tri-bar cover - everything else was a unique cover design.

Gave this to my teen for halloween and they are super happy. We do postcrossing and I am always on the lookout for unique postcards. Quick shipping, not damaged and a happy teenager- mission accomplished.

Sturdy cards. I love them all. Some will be used for "We've Moved" notifications to family and friends. Some will be put up on the wall. Some will be used as gift tags.

These are really gorgeous. I bought them for a collage project, but I loved them so much I wound up sending some of them just as they are.

Just fantastic, each card is a doorway into amazing histories and eventual movies, etc. I took each card and looked up the Wikipedia entry on it and ended up with a DIY Sci-Fi home-schooling education. 100 cards, no repeats.

great cardstock, but a lot of the images/authors/covers are very obscure. i was hoping for some classics, but it's mostly pulp.

About the Author

London has been able to combine her two greatest passions by being both a nurse caring for children and families and a teacher for almost 35 years. She received her B.S.N. and school nurse certificate from Plattsburgh State University in Plattsburgh, New York. After graduation, she began her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City then moved to Pittsburgh, where she began her teaching career. Mrs. London accepted a faculty position at Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital Affiliate Program and received her M.S.N. in pediatrics as a clinical nurse specialist from the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. London began teaching at Beth-El School of Nursing and Health Science in 1974 after opening the first intensive care nursery at Memorial Hospital of Colorado Springs. She has served in many administrative and faculty positions at Beth-El, including coordinator for nursing care of children for 32 years. Mrs. London maintains her clinical skills working in an urgent care and after-hours clinic and doing undergraduate pediatric clinical supervision. She obtained her postmaster’s neonatal nurse practitioner certificate in 1983 and subsequently developed the neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) program and the master’s NNP program at Beth-El. She is active nationally in neonatal nursing and was involved in the development of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Educational Program Guidelines. She has contributed 5 chapters to various neonatal nursing texts. Mrs. London is active in nurse practitioner education in general. She was involved in the revision of the Core Competency for Nurse Practitioners and Curriculum Guidelines for Nurse Practitioner Education, as a member of the Education Committee of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and participated as part of the Core Competency Validation Expert Panel. Mrs. London has also pursued her interest in college student learning by taking doctoral classes in  higher education administration and adult learning at the University of Denver in Colorado. She feels fortunate to be involved in the education of her future colleagues. Her teaching philosophy is that, with support, students can achieve more than they may initially believe they are capable of achieving. Mrs. London and her husband have two sons and one dog (Reilly, daughter by proxy). Her two sons, Craig and Matthew, are involved in computer informatics, and media arts and animation and are more than willing to give Mom helpful hints.   Patricia A. Wieland Ladewig Patricia A. Wieland Ladewig received her B.S. from the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota. After graduation, she worked as a pediatric nurse before joining the U.S. Air Force. After completing her tour of duty, Dr. Ladewig relocated at Florida, where she accepted a faculty position at Florida State University. There she embraced teaching as her calling. Over the years, she taught at several schools of nursing while earning her M.S.N. in maternal-newborn nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and her Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Denver in Colorado. In addition, she became a women’s health nurse practitioner and maintained a part-time clinical practice. In 1988 Dr. Ladewig became the first director of the nursing program at Regis College in Denver and., in 1991, when the college became Regis University, she became dean of the Rueckert-Hartman School for Health Professions. Under her guidance, the Department of Nursing has added a graduate program and the School  has added three departments: the Department of Physical Therapy, the Department of Health Services Administration and Management, and the Department of Health Care Ethics. Dr. Ladewig feels that teaching others to be excellent, caring nurses gives her the best of all worlds because it keeps her in touch with the profession she loves and enables her to help shape the future of the nursing profession. When not at work or writing textbooks, Pat and her husband, Tim, enjoy skiing, baseball games, and traveling. However their greatest pleasure comes from their family: son Ryan, his wife, Amanda, and grandson Reed; and son, Erik, his wife Kedri, and granddaughter Emma.

This book was required for my nursing school - BSN program. I feel the selection of books my program chose were all very informative, to the point and we used the books for the classes that required them. During nursing school most people do not know where their career will take them, there are so many options the RN has available, so building a strong foundation is essential to success in the field. Nursing books are not written to be entertaining they are for educational purpose only. This book definitely offered education. After you graduate school and chose a path then find the best reference book you can find and carry it with you until the day you retire. I always recommend the additional study guide to a book if one is available.

This book was required for my nursing school - BSN program. This text is well written and presented. It is clear, organized, and generally easy to read without boring me to tears. I bought the 8th ed. even though my course assigned the 9th, because this version is so cheap it's practically free. I've looked at the 9th ed. that all my classmates bought (and paid $90+) and the two are so similar that the new version is most certainly not worth the extra expense. Just make sure you check the subjects on the chapters in your syllabus, as some do not match up with the 9th ed.I highly recommend you buy this version in place of the new one!

I had to buy this for a nursing class, but even though it covers the field I want to work in, I will NOT be keeping this as a reference book. The organization of information in this book is confusing and illogical. One has to scan four chapters to get information on a single pregnancy complication. It's unfortunate that this was the textbook of choice for my class. I would have rathered spend my money and time getting into a book I could reference for years to come.

This book is an excellent source of information when it comes to OB. I am very pleased with how the content is easy to understand. The pictures are a great source of information. This by far is the best book a student can purchase for nursing school in your OB rotation. This book went right along on how the teacher explained it to us. Thanks to OLDs for coming up with such a great OB book. Keep up the good work. Students need something that is easy to relate to and understand. I found several errors and I really ended up not using the workbook much. I enjoyed the accompanying textbook but I really would recommend the workbook save your money! It was a required book for our class and I enjoy workbooks and clinical guides that go with textbooks because they summarize information or help you focus on the important parts of chapters but this workbook was more confusing and didn't seem to flow well with the textbook. Textbook is good workbook not really worth the money.

I really loved this book. It was just as the seller decribed in the description as well. This was a life saving book during my OB rotation. I really liked the cards that you could take out of the book and put into your pocket during clinical very nice feature.

I bought this book in the middle of my OB nursing rotation. Wish I had bought it at the beginning of the semester. Great book! Super helpful when writing papers and nursing clinical logs.

Added to that are several practical next steps on how to use this knowledge to make real change.Just know that this is not for a novice. It offers helpful and impactful content on how to better your nonprofit. But this also assumes that you've got some experience in the field and know some of how nonprofits work.Since those things both apply to me, I was able to glean a good deal of useful ideas from the book. Now if only actually applying them within my organization were quite as easy.

Steve does a great job of making the case for nonprofit leaders to understand their greatest asset...their data. He brings in interesting history and stories to illustrate the power behind the numbers.

For background context: I have a fairly extensive art and sculpting background with costuming and cosplay on the side. I got this book for extra tips for techniques, eye candy, and inspiration. While I hoped this would be a good tutorial book, I didn't go into my purchase expecting it.If you have at least intermediate level experience with sfx and costuming, this book is well worth it. Lots of inspirations within its pages and there's enough info for most projects that you could do something similar on your own.I would not recommend this to a beginner as far as instructions go, as there are some projects where entire chunks of the process are missing or just not explained all that well. A major example of this is the "Owl" on pg. 40. There are two pics of the materials used, and the third pic is the start of the project showing a closeup of the almost finished mask being airbrushed, accompanied by a description to make a cowl to cover the wearer's head and build up the mask from there. No pics of what said cowl is supposed to look like or how to start the project or what to do with the materials shown. The pics just start 3/4s into the project with the assumption you know exactly what went on before. There's a bit more step skipping in other projects, but to memory, this is the only extreme case, hence only 4 stars instead of 5 despite how much I like the rest of the book.

I was looking forward to getting this book based on all the giddy reviews about it...even though the makeups on the cover looked amateurish and suspiciously poorly lit. I wish I had gone with my instincts on this one. Most of this stuff is not what I consider makeup. Its cosplay. Seriously...one of the featured "makeups" shows you how to bedazzle a burlap sack and wear it over your head.Even the basics presented here I would have to say are misguided. For instance, it tells you to paint straight black into wax or putty scratches to give the appearance of deeper wounds. Really? That's what I used to do when I first started and didn't know any better.In my opinion Debrecini's book is the best book on the market right now, Savini's books will give you more insight about ingenuity and artistry, and Dick Smith's Monster Makeup Handbook will continue to be pulled from my shelf a thousand times more than I will ever refer to this dog turd of a book.

I own several books and DVD's on special effects make-up including both of the Grande Illusion books, Movie FX Magazine Master classes, books by Vincent Kehoe, Thurston James and more... and let me tell you this one book covers more ground then any of them. Everything from basic eyeliner and blush to full head latex appliances, costumes, props and metalwork. It has dozens of projects for you to follow along with to create some breathtaking effects.Now that isn't to say that this is perfect, the first and most obvious problem isn't really any fault of the original authors - but the copy I got from amazon has several mistakes and printing errors. But even with these errors the book is still very easy to follow.Other problems might be that some of the information might have gaps as suggested by another reviewer... it is hard for me to tell because I have studied this subject so much that I can fill in the blanks without really thinking.If you are on the fence about buying this book don't be, it is in full color with amazing full page artwork of the finished designs and step by step photos of everything. This book even answered questions some "professionals" I asked could not! For the money this book is very, VERY hard to beat.Now if only someone would put out a book this detailed about animatronics!

Got this for my husband. he has been in special effects and makeup for a few years. Excellent read, great pictures, and even how-tos! A must buy for anyone interested in this line of work, or even just hobbyists who love this kind of thing. Plus, the pictures are incredible and some of the work is mind-blowing!

A really beautiful book. I got it to learn about special fx makeup, but it also includes a brief section on basic beauty makeup. However, its true amazingness is in the colorful, detailed photos of the prosthetics being created and applied, proving to the world that this is a true art form that takes dedication and talent.Admittedly, a few of its explanations aren't as detailed as I would like, and i think it's more of a showcase of beautiful work than a serious text for instruction in sfx makeup. but I still love it and am glad I have it. I wouldn't say it takes the place of hands-on studio instruction, but it's great for inspiration.

This Book is a beautiful special effects book. The breakdown of the character work here is amazing. They teach you how to make high quality costumes and monster characters. This book is great it covers a lot of information in one book that is not always covered in other such books. The molding and casting, acrylic teeth, all kinds of cool crafting and fabrication for effects industry characters. I recommend that anyone wanting to get into Make-up effects grab this book. It is well done and has quite a bit of tech info.The photos are high quality this book is worth the investment. This along with a few other texts could possibly help you launch your career as a beginner in the special make-up effects industry. Be sure to seek out other information on the subject as well to give you a well rounded starting point. Dick Smith, Richard Corson, Tom Savini, and a handful of other wonderful texts on the subject matters. The make-up industry secrets have come out, and this current books contributes to the body of that information. With updates on techniques and materials available.Great book great starting point.

About the Author

Joseph P. Buckley is a forensic interviewer, detection of deception examiner, lecturer, and consultant. He is the President of John E. Reid and Associates in Chicago, Illinois and has been with the firm since 1971. Mr. Buckley is co-author of the books The Investigator Anthology and Criminal Interrogation and Confessions, as well as numerous articles and papers. He is a contributing author to the Encyclopedia of Police Science and the Encyclopedia of Security Management, a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Society for Industrial Security, the American Management Association, the Chicago Crime Commission, as well as numerous other professional organizations, and he has lectured extensively to law enforcement, government, and business groups.

Great and interesting book! Worked perfectly for my college Criminal Interrogations 1 class. Very fast shipping!

DNA exonerations of persons wrongly convicted of crimes shows that false confessions are a significant problem, and that persons who are factually innocent nevertheless confess to crimes as serious as rape an murder without being guilty. As I have read a lot of articles and books lately that talk about the things that promote false confessions, the "Reid Method" of police interrogation is a ubiquitous component of the problem. This method dates back to the 1950's, and has been taught to every major and most minor police organization.The idea that a trained officer can tell when someone is telling the truth--using the methods in this book--has been demonstrated to be false by recent behavioral studies. The assumptions underlying much of this method, and the encouragement of officer's rote testimony as to those unvalidated assumptions can be picked up in this book. The components of an interrogation, the way an officer is trained to approach the subject, and structure the questions, police behavior, and environment of the questioning are all laid out here, as well as the significant difference in police thinking between what is an "interview" and what is an "interrogation."Unless you work in the criminal justice field--as a police officer, prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer or judge, you probably won't have any use for this book. If you need to know the details of how police officers think about interrogating suspects, and the methods they use, this book is absolutely essential.
