Focusing on data means being a good storyteller. Added to that are several practical next steps on how to use this knowledge to make real change.Just know that this is not for a novice. It offers helpful and impactful content on how to better your nonprofit. But this also assumes that you've got some experience in the field and know some of how nonprofits work.Since those things both apply to me, I was able to glean a good deal of useful ideas from the book. Now if only actually applying them within my organization were quite as easy.

For background context: I have a fairly extensive art and sculpting background with costuming and cosplay on the side. I got this book for extra tips for techniques, eye candy, and inspiration. While I hoped this would be a good tutorial book, I didn't go into my purchase expecting it.If you have at least intermediate level experience with sfx and costuming, this book is well worth it. Lots of inspirations within its pages and there's enough info for most projects that you could do something similar on your own.I would not recommend this to a beginner as far as instructions go, as there are some projects where entire chunks of the process are missing or just not explained all that well. A major example of this is the "Owl" on pg. 40. There are two pics of the materials used, and the third pic is the start of the project showing a closeup of the almost finished mask being airbrushed, accompanied by a description to make a cowl to cover the wearer's head and build up the mask from there. No pics of what said cowl is supposed to look like or how to start the project or what to do with the materials shown. The pics just start 3/4s into the project with the assumption you know exactly what went on before. There's a bit more step skipping in other projects, but to memory, this is the only extreme case, hence only 4 stars instead of 5 despite how much I like the rest of the book.

I was looking forward to getting this book based on all the giddy reviews about it...even though the makeups on the cover looked amateurish and suspiciously poorly lit. I wish I had gone with my instincts on this one. Most of this stuff is not what I consider makeup. Its cosplay. Seriously...one of the featured "makeups" shows you how to bedazzle a burlap sack and wear it over your head.Even the basics presented here I would have to say are misguided. For instance, it tells you to paint straight black into wax or putty scratches to give the appearance of deeper wounds. Really? That's what I used to do when I first started and didn't know any better.In my opinion Debrecini's book is the best book on the market right now, Savini's books will give you more insight about ingenuity and artistry, and Dick Smith's Monster Makeup Handbook will continue to be pulled from my shelf a thousand times more than I will ever refer to this dog turd of a book.

I own several books and DVD's on special effects make-up including both of the Grande Illusion books, Movie FX Magazine Master classes, books by Vincent Kehoe, Thurston James and more... and let me tell you this one book covers more ground then any of them. Everything from basic eyeliner and blush to full head latex appliances, costumes, props and metalwork. It has dozens of projects for you to follow along with to create some breathtaking effects.Now that isn't to say that this is perfect, the first and most obvious problem isn't really any fault of the original authors - but the copy I got from amazon has several mistakes and printing errors. But even with these errors the book is still very easy to follow.Other problems might be that some of the information might have gaps as suggested by another reviewer... it is hard for me to tell because I have studied this subject so much that I can fill in the blanks without really thinking.If you are on the fence about buying this book don't be, it is in full color with amazing full page artwork of the finished designs and step by step photos of everything. This book even answered questions some "professionals" I asked could not! For the money this book is very, VERY hard to beat.Now if only someone would put out a book this detailed about animatronics!

Got this for my husband. he has been in special effects and makeup for a few years. Excellent read, great pictures, and even how-tos! A must buy for anyone interested in this line of work, or even just hobbyists who love this kind of thing. Plus, the pictures are incredible and some of the work is mind-blowing!

A really beautiful book. I got it to learn about special fx makeup, but it also includes a brief section on basic beauty makeup. However, its true amazingness is in the colorful, detailed photos of the prosthetics being created and applied, proving to the world that this is a true art form that takes dedication and talent.Admittedly, a few of its explanations aren't as detailed as I would like, and i think it's more of a showcase of beautiful work than a serious text for instruction in sfx makeup. but I still love it and am glad I have it. I wouldn't say it takes the place of hands-on studio instruction, but it's great for inspiration.

This Book is a beautiful special effects book. The breakdown of the character work here is amazing. They teach you how to make high quality costumes and monster characters. This book is great it covers a lot of information in one book that is not always covered in other such books. The molding and casting, acrylic teeth, all kinds of cool crafting and fabrication for effects industry characters. I recommend that anyone wanting to get into Make-up effects grab this book. It is well done and has quite a bit of tech info.The photos are high quality this book is worth the investment. This along with a few other texts could possibly help you launch your career as a beginner in the special make-up effects industry. Be sure to seek out other information on the subject as well to give you a well rounded starting point. Dick Smith, Richard Corson, Tom Savini, and a handful of other wonderful texts on the subject matters. The make-up industry secrets have come out, and this current books contributes to the body of that information. With updates on techniques and materials available.Great book great starting point.

DNA exonerations of persons wrongly convicted of crimes shows that false confessions are a significant problem, and that persons who are factually innocent nevertheless confess to crimes as serious as rape an murder without being guilty. As I have read a lot of articles and books lately that talk about the things that promote false confessions, the "Reid Method" of police interrogation is a ubiquitous component of the problem. This method dates back to the 1950's, and has been taught to every major and most minor police organization.The idea that a trained officer can tell when someone is telling the truth--using the methods in this book--has been demonstrated to be false by recent behavioral studies. The assumptions underlying much of this method, and the encouragement of officer's rote testimony as to those unvalidated assumptions can be picked up in this book. The components of an interrogation, the way an officer is trained to approach the subject, and structure the questions, police behavior, and environment of the questioning are all laid out here, as well as the significant difference in police thinking between what is an "interview" and what is an "interrogation."Unless you work in the criminal justice field--as a police officer, prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer or judge, you probably won't have any use for this book. I passed my PMP exam on my first try yesterday (11/16/17) in Atlanta, Ga.I was someone who studied business in school but truly felt like I was starting from step one in this whole new world of PMP.My recommendations1. Read Head First PMP first. It gives a good aerial view of what Project management is and it’s an easy read. However, IT IS IN NO WAY sufficient to use as your only study material. And the questions are worded much easier than the ones you’ll see the on the actual exam2. After Head first read the PMBOK – it’s really not as dry as people want to make it out to be, it’s just very straight forward. I know this isn’t what you want to hear but….you need to write down all the ITTO’s many times over your season of studying. You just have to know it – theres no way around it. I would say I got about 15-20 questions on the exam about it.3. Get Rita’s book and read one chapter of Rita’s Book followed by the same chapter in the PMBOK.Take your time - this is a marathon, not a sprint I devoted about 30 minutes –2 hours of studying every day for 4 months. 10 min here, 30 min there, it will add up, I promise.BE smarter than me and make copies of all the practice exams sheets before you start marking on them. When you go back over the chapter you don’t want the answers highlighted like mine were.Do practice test from pmstudy.com (pay for it, it will be worth it). I only did the one in the Head First book, and the chapter exams in Rita’s book and I REALLY regretted it. I can’t tell you how tricky they intentionally make the question and the answers. So many questions had 2 valid answers on it at first glance.If I could do it over I wouldread head first onceread PMBOK onceread Rita’s book onceread PMBOK and Rita’s together until you’re gettings 80’s and above on pmstudy.comYou have to get familiar with the tricky wording on the questions (Rita’s book does that pretty well) and get familiar with the ITTO’s, take LOTS of practice test from PMstudy.com and you’ll be good.

I wrote the below comment for Rita's book "PMP Exam Pre, eighth edition), but I will also,post it here for Head First!!! Let me say that Head First is an outstanding book, some mistakes but if you know the concepts you can work through them. If you have time yo study both Rita's book and Head First I HIGHLY recommend studying both! You can get through Head First in 2 weeks its a very fun read.I passed my PMP two days ago! I took a. 4 day bootcamp which was a waste of money, but the instructor from the bootcamp told me to buy Rita's book to get a better understanding. I also bought Head First PMP, McGraw-Hill's PMP Certification Mathematics with CD-ROM , I also signed up for a 20 day pass on PMStudy to rake practice test. When I took the exam I felt very confident and was able to breeze through the questions. I was able to pass all the sections!!!! I truly believe all the above resources really helped me. If you cannot get all the above resources or only have a short window to study I recommend the following:1) DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON A BOOTCAMP!!!!!!2) Buy Rita's book and read as much as you can3) Get McGraw-Hill's PMP Certification Mathematics with CD-ROM to help with the math section (take the practice test on the CD-ROM) 1-2 days before the test. Make sure you understand calculating critical path, and all the necessary formulas (KNOW YOUR FORMULA'S IN YOUR SLEEP!!!!, EAT, DRINK, SLEEP, PLAY WHATEVER YOU DO KNOW YOUR FORMULA'S!!!!!) especially AC, PV, EV, CV, CPI, SV, SPI, EAC, BAC, ETC, TCPI, SD, VARIANCE, PV (PRESENT VALUE), Communication Channel4) Sign up for PMStudy 20 days worth of testing!!!! Take the first test to see where you are, study study study the knowledge areas where you are weak take exam 2 if you get less than 80 go back to Rita's book! Take exam 3 get an 80 or better than take exam 4 the morning BEFORE your test so that your in a testing mind frame.5) I LOVED Head First PMP but if you don't have time to study everything I would say to buy this book as a companion to Rita's book. This book is a fun read and makes the concepts easier to understand6) Make sure your referencing the PMBOK 5 (Most Important)During the exam (make sure your doing good on time before you follow these directions)1) If you believe in prayer (PRAY) - ummmm you also do not need to tell anyone your taking the test, just in case........2) Breathe and relax3) Do the first 50 - 75 questions (Take a break, go to the bathroom, get some water, sit in the waiting room, just get away from the test)4) Go back in do the next 25 - 50 questions (take another break)5) Keep doing this until you finish6) Before you review your questions, take your final break come back review your questions, (I took another break!!!!!), did the survey, packed up my things so I wasn't steering at the screen, and BOOM THERE IT WAS!!!!! Birds started singing, confetti fell from the ceiling, and people began to dance!! (well maybe in my head, but you get the point!)Good luck and God Bless!!!!

This book is really a helpful study tool for those who are getting started with their PMP study.It really simplifies the information and uses an attractive approach to get the needed information into your head.I strongly recommend this book for those who get bored from reading traditional text books.Despite of some minor mistakes and typos, this book is still awesome.I just passed my PMP test on 1/20/2014 using this book as my primary study guide and i found that it had 90% of the information i needed to pass the exam..I also used some other practice questions books to help practice.Special Advice:When you buy this paper book, visit the Author's website mentioned on the last page register, and buy yourself a soft copy of the book for an extra 5$.it will be useful to print exercise pages and practice them with your own hands, while keeping your original paper copy clean.

To set the stage, let me say that I've never formally held the title of project manager, although, I've managed some projects before. Suffice to to say that I would consider myself a Novice project manager. That said, the Head First PMP was the only book that I used to study. Although, I purchased Rita's guide, I never got around to reading it. I passed the PMP exam on the first try. When I finished reading Head First PMP, I felt 100% confident that I would pass. After I sat down and began the exam, after the first 20 questions, I'll say that I felt about 80% sure that I would pass. Hindsight being 20/20, I would say that you can absolutely pass the exam by only using this book. If you'd like to have even more confidence going in, I would say read this book, do ALL of the exercises just the way they tell you to. Then, possibly read Rita's book also just to make sure that your confidence stays at 100% during the exam...haha! Happy testing! You'll do great!
