This is a pretty good guide, however you must have some knowledge of Warblers to begin. Still, I highly recommend it for beginners. Beautiful images with several perspectives and various plumage phases. My big problem with Warblers is that where I live, they are always in migration, so I get 2, sometimes 3 different versions of the same bird, like breeding plumage and non-breeding plumage, plus the females. Female Warblers always throw me off.I highly recommend this guide, particularly for the Fire HDX, but I can't imagine the paperback being worse : )

The "confusion" began falling away by the time I reached the 50th page! By page 100 I had gained an entire toolbox to use in the field. Spring or fall, here in the eastern US, I feel confident about my ability to identify our warblers since studying this wonderful book. I was prepared for a very nice guide when I read the information available before publication. I was not prepared for the level of excellence I found when I actually had the publication in my hands (on Kindle!)This book is so awesome that I also purchased a paper version of it! I can't think of any aspect of warbler identification it doesn't cover and the photography is unparalleled. I truly believe anyone interested in birds, especially getting to know/identify warblers in the US and Canada, will love this book!When The Warbler Guide first came out in the Kindle edition, the page numbers were not included, making it impossible (or very difficult) to use the song supplement that is available for purchase. I contacted the authors and just today received notice that the pages are now included! (If you purchased the Kindle edition before today, you may need to delete it from your device and redownload it from your cloud to have the numbers display. If you are unsure how to do that, Amazon customer service will see you through.)

What an incredible book. It has taken years to produce what can only be the ultimate guide to Parulidae, the Wood Warblers we all love to see in their glorious spring plumage. At more than 500 pages for 81 species, the coverage is amazing. Generally, I am not a fan of photographic field guides: it is almost impossible to capture all the relevant details in a photograph. However, this book is the exception. Instead of a single photo for each species, the book contains photos of every important feature of the birds.Choosing a page at random, I found myself on the account for Black-throated Gray.Icons at the top of the page provide a silhouette, a "quick impression" sketch, a picture of the tail, a small range map, and a sketch of the preferred habitat.That is followed by three photos showing the bird in profile, the underparts, and the "tail in your face" view that is all too typical of warblers. The following page first shows four distinctive views of the main field marks for the bird, including an extreme close-up of the yellow lore spot that is the "killer field mark" for this species. The rest of that page contains 12 more photos.Next, we are presented with a page showing similar species that might confuse a birder.A section on Aging and Sexing reveals the many different plumage variations that you may encounter in the field, followed by range maps showing the species's permanent range as well as spring and fall migration routes.Finally, we have spectrograms for the many vocalizations. Frankly, I know that I should learn to read these, but I prefer to listen to actual sound recordings.This book is not really useful as a field guide. It is too large and specialized to carry into the field. It will join "Big Sibley" (The Sibley Guide to Birds) as one of the references I carry in the car to consult when I have a difficult ID to work out. A very valuable book that belongs in every serious birder's library.

Very nice guide with photos from all different angles and a lot of discussion to help you figure out which bird is which. I especially like the quick-finder guides near the beginning of the book: face view, side view, 45-degree view, underneath view, spring view, fall view--it's all here. You just find the bird or birds that "your" bird might be in the quick-finder pages, then turn to the main section for that bird or birds to see if you've identified the right one. In the main sections for each bird, there are sections for "if it's not this one, then what else could it be?" There also are sections describing the vocalizations of the birds, but I can't read human music, much less bird music, so I have no idea whether these descriptions would be helpful for someone capable of making sense of the notations. This is a substantial book printed on quality paper and filled with quality photos. No slop here!

Of all the bird books I own including all compilations and books on specific species, this has to be the best. Well organized, incredible detail, superb photos including details on song patterns and side by side comparisons of similar warblers. it's rather easy to tell this book was put together with much planing and thought. Well crafted in every respect.I'm not sure how much better it can get than this. The only thing I can think of that would be missing is a sound CD such as the one that came with the Stokes Birds book. That would have made a great companion however most if not all of these bird sounds can be found on the publc web site Xeno Canto.This book is a must for any Warbler lover.

This was a first rate read. This story proves that real life is far more exciting than anything an author could make up. Thus historic event was a tragedy, and the author told the facts beautifully. I couldn't put this down, even reaching for it in the middle of the night. This was a thriller.

This is an important book to me because Jesse Collins was my great grandfather. I can remember my grandfather telling me this story and other stories of growing up in Newfoundland and living at sea. It was a difficult life. I appreciate someone writing this account of the disaster so that we won't ever forget.

I read this book in High School and do remember being greatly astonished by this event. After reading it a second time 30 years later I was no less astonished or impacted. This book is a must read for all who are interested in Newfoundland culture.The author does a wonderful job of reporting the story and presenting the key figures in the historical account.

Unbelivable story of conditions that boys and men endured to try to make a few dollars and the greed of many of the ship captains. Made me glad I protested the mass killing of seal pups. Story of courage and greed. A must read for understanding the life of the Newfoundland people.

Awesome blend of history and storytelling. Was well worth a re-read after all these years.

This book was written in 1914 the year my grandmother was born--she is still with us. Her uncle--my great-great-uncle Donovan was part of the history of the writing. I am sorry to say he perished on the ice. I wanted to read this to be a part of my heritage. Thanks Paula

Reason for Reading: I read the book a long time ago and knew it was a good read.This book is a chilling tale of how 132 men were stranded for two days and nights during a freezing storm on the ice-fields of the North Atlantic with only one-third of them surviving to be rescued. First, though, it is the story of the harsh life of the early 20th century Newfoundland fisherman who scraped a living from the sea. Fishing when it was warm and sealing at the end of a long winter when the money was direly in need. The fur seals came up onto the ice for a brief period of time and it was a race against the clock to get out to the seals until the sealers were done and home, safe, again. It wasn't a job anyone liked, there was no sport in clubbing baby seals and the conditions on the frozen ocean were dangerous, but it was one of only a few ways to make a living.The year of 1914 would prove to be one of the worst tragedies the Newfoundlanders had seen in their entire harsh way of life. The men from one ship, the SS Newfoundland were stranded on the ice, and none of the captains of any of the other ships including the Newfoundland knew they were out there. Everyone assumed they were aboard another ship. The Newfoundland had been stripped of its wireless the previous year as the company found it unprofitable, thus communication with this one ship which was stuck in the ice was impossible.A harrowing tale of what men will do to survive under the most extreme conditions. How the will to survive kicks in, the mental state one goes into to come out of such an ordeal alive. A gut-wrenching tale of how men slowly succumb to the elements, how it affects first the body then the mind causing some to end their own lives by walking off the ice into the ocean, others to lay down and die and many more died frozen in mid-step; these are the worst as they had the will but their bodies just couldn't hold out."Death on the Ice" also shows the complete and utter folly of those in charge to do anything to save these men. The disaster could have been prevented if one of any number of things had been done either prior to or during the expedition. "The men" were concerned for them and spoke to their superiors who then spoke to their superiors but word never got beyond that point because "Old Man" Kean was out there and he was the one who had sent the men out into the upcoming storm. No one questioned Kean or told Kean what to do; he was a seasoned Captain, as well as a respected and feared man. The complete mess that goes on back on the ships while these men are freezing to death is unbearable. A riveting and compelling read of human survival, suffering and death versus company greed and disregard for human comfort at a time when employers counted human lives as expendable.

The MIS book is extremely helpful and contains a lot of information. Bidgoli is extremely knowledgeable on the subjects inside and gives helpful examples throughout the book. Not only did I learn a lot reading in this book, the online program (MindTap) that comes with the book is great. It is super user friendly and it helped with my grade in the class tremendously. This online program has PowerPoints, Flash cards, and other useful things. It’s a great purchase and I highly recommend it because of the information this book has!

MIS 6 is a great tool in explaining technology affecting businesses and beyond. I've read reviews of people who are turned off by the references to other chapters, I find it easier to gain access to more information. The chapters are laid out for easy reading. As a college student I appreciate a text that will give me the info I need with the least amount of fluff in the way. Using the online text along with the tear out study sheets provided in the back of the book have been great tools the help me study and succeed. I highly recommend this text and MIS 7 which will provide even more relevant information on modern technology.

I enjoy this book because it is an easy read, and it is interesting because it is not outdated; this book stays up to date with current data and topics. Also, the review of each chapter in the back of the book makes it very convenient to study for exams, which helps tremendously! This book has been one of the best I've used throughout my college career. It is super easy to read and the content is interesting. Bidgoli is extremely knowledgeable on the subjects inside and gives helpful examples throughout. Not only did I learn a lot reading the book, the online program it comes with is great! It is super user friendly and it helped with my grade in the class tremendously. It offers flashcards and a concept tracker, but my favorite was the practice quizzes. I would read the chapter first and then test myself after using the online quiz. All-in-all it was a great purchase and I highly recommend it.

This textbook is the best I have seen for MIS. Chapters are well written so that minimal reading is required to learn a great amount of information. Definitions are explained clearly and completely, and can be understood by anyone remotely familiar with technology.Questions at the end of chapters combined with online practice questions are extremely useful study tools that enabled good grades in my course. Making flashcards and studying specific topics was easy with the online study bits feature.With the well explained book and fantastic online features, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone learning MIS.

All of the material in this book is written in a way that any individual studying MIS is able to read and understand the language being used. Also, the real-life cases, situations, and companies are very useful and helpful for the readers to familiarize with the concepts.

Very nice layout for a textbook! Tons of pictures and colorful case studies really bring to light current issues and topics relating to information systems and applications. The online feature is excellent as well especially in studying the material. There are pre-made flash cards on all the vocabulary terms on the website which were very useful in studying the content. This book is up to date on current and upcoming technology applications with interesting case studies. Good informative edition!

Great Book. Clear writing and very little BS. I'm reading the Kindle version, which is good for some things (like having the book always at hand),but can suffer from formatting issues. Many "pocket references" can have too little detail. This has more than I expected (which makes me wonder what the upcoming "in a nutshell" book would have that this doesn't).Take his advice and use LINQPad (free version) to try out code.

IMO, C# has evolved sufficiently that, especially when maintaining source with other programmers' idiosyncratic idioms, using out-of-date references can be counterproductive.I'm about half way thru this pocket reference.Fundamental points on which it is weak are "this" and specific implications of ":" ,where examples are provided seemingly instead of clear explanations, e.g. "Rules Within a Namespace" (pp 65-66).Referring to the authors' (also well-regarded) "Nutshell" book is not helpful, since it employs the same approach. FWIW, neither book indexes colon usage, and "Pocket Reference" does not index CLR, Common Language Runtime (page 20).Bottom line: this seems a good portable hard copy up-to-date quick reference.For more/different help, Microsoft's online docs work.

Unusually clear for a pocket guide. Most are so terse that, even if they include all features of a language, become opaque and unhelpful. This one really communicates without becoming overlong. An impressive accomplishment, particularly for a fairly complex language like C#.
