Very nice quality map, but plastic coating, while lending durability, prevented me from marking or using a highlighter on the map... but things I like to do when planning trips. Ended up using our Marco Polo map for all purposes. I think the NG map is better for inspiring your trip and helping you decide, "visualize", your route in advance, but you should have a Michelin or Marco Polo quality map for actual nagivation purposes (of course GPS helped while we were en route, but we used our "big map" to determine how WE wanted to travel and then used GPS to help us stay on our chosen route.

My daughter and husband just went on a mission trip to Peru and they went to a tiny mountain village that most people have not heard of....but it was on this map! Very detailed and lined with a waterproof coating, it has been well used and is surviving well. My boys and I tracked their trip from home, learning a little about every town they stopped at and how to track elevation on a map. Great little map, the 'adventure line' has more details than the other maps, I will be buying more of these.

Decription says, "Rough tracks that require four-wheel drive vehicles and paths are included". I purchased for the paths. While it is a decent map it is useless for hikers. Punto. The many trails in the Sacred Valley, inclding the Inca Trail, are not mapped. The description is inaccurate.Useless photos covering map could have been detail of cities or hiking trails. Would not recommend for a true adventurer.

The only issue with this map is the topographic elevations. I wish the elevations would be more frequently printed and be in imperial units of measurement rather than metric. Other than that it is/was a useful map. I used it in Peru and it got me from one town to the next while exploring.

Very detailed, including many small communities. Material is also very nice quality. My only gripe is that they include two photographs over parts of the map. Technically they do not cover up anywhere in Peru, just adjacent areas in Ecuador and Colombia, but I find it a very poor decision to omit any potentially useful section of map for an unnecessary image. A serious cartographic faux pas.

It is very useful for overall planning of a trip to South America later on this year. I purchased it because I had a National Geographic map of New Zealand that I used for a trip there last year that I liked very much. Although it is not detailed enough to do detailed planning, it provides enough detail to see where there are major roads, cities, etc. The fact that it is printed on "plastic" is a plus as well.

Very good quality, typical Nat-Geo detailed map.

Great map and will carry it with me while hiking through Peru next month

Filtering on the heels of the other books in this series, this look at sidekicks is tongue in cheek, but informative. Some of these crazy heroes assistants are just amazing - amazingly insipid! But it's a lot of fun.

Got these fir Christmas for an avid collector that has everything and he loved them!

This series is always a laugh and I’m glad o also follow the blog.

Present for friend

This is an amazing book! I was sent the book as a free product specifically so that I could do a review of it. That said, I always try to be honest and open in my reviews. This is an amazing book! It fun and insightful! Frankly, I was not expecting a book of this caliber. Please see the attached pictures. The binding is sturdy. The pages are of a thick paper stock, and the colors are vibrant.Quality aside, the book is chalked full of interesting, amusing, and engaging information.I love Jon Morris' sense of humor, and he displays it throughout the book.If you are a comic book or superhero fan, or you have a special friend or family member who is, this is a great book to buy, to give as a gift, and to re-read time and time again.Well done Jon Morris.

When it comes to comic books, the sidekick has often been featured with a major hero. Some achieving success such as Batman and Robin, while Captain American had a sidekick named Bucky, which didn't last long but became integral to Captain America storylines over the years. But while Robin and Bucky, may have been one of the memorable sidekicks, there have been forgetful sidekicks. Some who played major roles when they were conceived back in the golden and silver age of comic books. But have been forgotten since then.Writer Jon Morris explores these sidekicks with his new book "The League of Regrettable Sidekicks: Heroic Helpers from Comic Book History!" from Quirk Books. Jon also has a cool blog worth checking out titled, "Gone & Forgotten".For the book "The League of Regrettable Sidekicks: Heroic Helpers from Comic Book History!", Morris tackles sidekicks from the Golden Age, The Silver Age and The Modern Age.Not so much the popular titles but more of the forgotten sidekicks, so you are not going to see Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, Aquaman or Aqualad, Flash and Kid Flash or even Batman and Robin. This book focuses on those sidekicks that some may never knew existed in comic books. From early sidekicks such as The Agatha Detective Agency who appeared in Startling Comics and was partners with the hero Captain Future. The aquatic heroes, Barry & Algie featured in Yankee Comics in 1941. Also, Fatman who partnered with Tex Thompson and Mr. America/The Americommando for DC Comics back in 1938. Or Plastic Man's partner, Woozy Winks in Police Comics (Quality Comics). And of course, exploring so many other heroes and sidekicks, including Captain Marvel's many sidekicks. One thing I was wondering if there would be any Gold Key comics sidekicks featured and sure enough, Morris featured 1A, the sidekick of Magnus, Robot Fighter. While it would be cool to have featured Krypto, Streaky and Beppo (the animal sidekicks for Superman), they do feature Supergirl's flying horse Comet. What I enjoyed about the book is learning of characters I had no idea about. I never knew about the Joker's sidekick, Gaggy the Dwarf in the pages of "Batman". Nor did I know of the water sprite, Quisp, featured in "Aquaman". Nor have I heard of Superman, Jr. in the pages of "Superman".I was aware of Rick Jones, who was featured on "The Incredible Hulk" and then "The Avengers" and often played the disgruntled friend of the Avengers who never got to go anywhere, because he didn't have superhuman abilities. But never saw him as a sidekick but more of the pause filler character to introduce some emotional (or comedy, depending on how you looked at it) element. But Morris does a magnificent job in showcasing as many heroes as possible in "The League of Regrettable Sidekicks: Heroic Helpers from Comic Book History!".Entertaining, well-written and researched! If you are a fan of comic books, especially the historic side of learning about heroes from a bygone era, especially their sidekicks, then definitely give Jon Morris' "The League of Regrettable Sidekicks: Heroic Helpers from Comic Book History!" a try!Highly recommended!

The League of Regrettable SIdekicks is a follow-up to Jon Morris's previous books on regrettable superheroes and villains. I've read the superheroes one and plan to read the villains one someday, too. Lovingly curated, Morris gives humorous descriptions of the characters and the context of their existence (sometimes part of a fashion catalog, sometimes a reaction to another more popular character, etc.). One or more pages from the comics are included with each listing, so you can see exactly what's being described.Of course, the best part of the book is Morris's sense of humor. In the information at the margin of each page, there is always a very clever send-up of the characters, and Morris is great at both describing the comics with affection and mercilessly ridiculing them. This kind of book would not be any fun at all if it weren't apparent that the author genuinely loves comics and is fascinated by both the good and the bad. This is the kind of book that you can peck away at, rather than buzz through in a sitting. The hardcover backing and good paper quality makes this a fine product, great as a coffee table book or a supplement to a classic comics collection. The Superheroes one was a bit fresher and would be the best place to start, but if you enjoy that you'll certainly like this too.

Almost what I expect now from John Morris' "Regrettable" series about comic books. The book is divided into 3 parts -- Golden Age, Silver Age, and Modern Age -- which has meaning for the comic geeks out there. If you aren't familiar with these periods, there is a brief introduction to each before them. Golden Age has 42 entries and two-page focus article on Captain Marvel sidekicks. SIlver Age has 26 entries and a two-page focus article on Superman sidekicks. Modern Age has 28 entries and two two-page focus articles on Captain America sidekicks and Richie Rich sidekicks. Most of the entries are two-pages, one with a a page from the comic or a few images from it and then a page of text; the layout alternates every other page. Some sidekicks have extra pages with more images and texts such as The Agatha Detective Agency and Tiny but these are only in the Golden Age part of the book. Why? I would think we've have more pages from comics closer to 2018 not the other way around. My hubby and I enjoyed reading this book together and we hope there are more in the series. Brainstorming we came up with at last a half dozen more themes for "regrettable" comic book investigations.

So I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this book. Finally the day came!!!! And it was so very worth the wait. Lines were drawn in the sand. Questions were answered. Secrets were revealed and put to rest. Declarations were made. Raven helped her dad out of a dangerous situation. Friends from the past were introduced. Such a great book!! This series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely loved the book and series!!!!!! A must read......over and over and over again!!!!

The Crossbreed series is one of my all time favorites and Dannika Dark didn’t disappoint with Nevermore! If you’ve gotten this far in the series there’s no reason to recap the fantastic world-building, or how amazingly well developed each of the characters are. They are honestly so real that finishing a book is like leaving family behind. The term book hangover doesn’t do it justice, it’s more like homesickness. So, in Nevermore we’re really delving more into the lives and history of Raven and Christian. We learn about the events and people of their past, and who played an important role in determining who they are in the present. Some new characters are introduced, and some names mentioned in previous books are brought to life of these pages... some deliciously good, and some I would rather throat punch than read about.Houdini makes a few appearances just to tease us, and I love every second of it. I know we’re supposed to hate him, but he’s wickedly intriguing to me. I slurp up his snippets like a Houdini addict.I wish I could pace myself so the books could last longer. But I cannot. I can’t get enough.

Nothing happens worth noting in this book except one thing. The plot goes in circles around family drama that I didn't really care about and was bored reading. And if Raven and Christian weren't having enough, continued - unresolved, problems already -new love and old love interest were added to mix. Really?I enjoyed the first few books in this series but the last book was underwhelming and this book was just bad. I will no longer keep this series on my must read list

This is my favorite book in this series. It provides closure and leaves the reader wanting more. Raven Black is a wounded soul who has found strength in herself but learns to trust in the strength of her family and loved ones as well. This book ties up her heart, her emotional journey. It sets the tone for who she will be in the future. Her journey has been amazing and I’m so exited to be able to follow along. I love that Dark writes all her books in the same world. I’ve read every single one and can’t get enough. Buy her books, you will enter a skillfully crafted world unlike any other. Go for it. You’re welcome.

This was another cracker of a book in the Crossbreed series. The book picks straight up from where Blackout finished, thankfully not dragging out the somewhat of a cliffhanger from the former installment. This book had a slightly different plot line to previous books, but the same feeling and flavour that has me already wanting the next one to be out already. Whereas the other 5 books centre around Keystone and their latest case, Book 6 really delved more heavily into the background and history of Raven and Christian as individuals and what that means for them as a couple. Don't get me wrong, there was still plenty happening like you'd expect from this author, but it focused on the drama that was surrounding the key players. If you haven't read Book 5, Blackout, you really need to before you start this one.Raven takes a hiatus from Keystone, leading Viktor to give everyone a couple of weeks off to recuperate from the high voltage events resulting from the blackout in Book 5, as well as give them time to adjust to Hunter (Shepherd's son) being around the house. Hunter was a great little, feel-good addition to the book that popped up throughout. He is bringing a lot of depth to the other characters and plays a sweet role in the Keystone family.Raven moves back home for the short term to reconnect with Crush. I loved Crush. He was a great addition to former books and we really get to know him better in Nevermore. He's abrupt, stubborn and fiercely loves Raven. Raven learns that he's in financial trouble and has borrowed money from less than reputable loan sharks who also happen to be lion shifters, making things take a turn for the worse. We get introduced to the breed world surrounding Crush and finally get to meet Switch, who some readers might remember was the handsome young man who escorted Raven to a school dance after she was stood up by some douche. Switch was a really strong character and featured regularly throughout the book. He was likeable, cute and loyal. He makes a bit of play for Raven, but very respectfully.Christian's background with Lenore is finally explained, consequently revealing a series of breadcrumbs about his past that climaxes into an explanation of why he is the way he is. While I wanted to smash Lenore's face in with an impalement stake for a lot of the book, I get why she had to be there. Be warned - there is a bit of drama with her being Christian's former love of his life and it tread very close to her being a cause for Raven and Christian's relationship to break down. While Lenore wreaked havoc by making a play for Christian, the author thankfully didn't drag this out as a love triangle or a potential 'other woman' situation. I was very appreciative that things were explained and tidied up quickly as I would have hated this and Dannika Dark is a million times better than falling for this age old plot line (which she didn't, bless her).As for Raven and Christian? The continued to be fabulous. Raven was her usual strong, kickas$ self who continued to struggle with the transition from her former human life to being a crossbreed. She had several, candid moments with Crush about her past, her feelings and her immortality, giving the book a bit of a melancholy, nostalgic feel and making Raven's character feel pretty raw as she tried to show her dad how much she loved him and apologise for where her life had taken her. Christian was delicious, as always. A slight gripe I had was that he didn't feature as much as I would have liked in the book and there wasn't too much from his point of view as Raven mostly took the reigns. Luckily the author made up for it with a few steamy scenes towards the end and, finally, a candid conversation between our two lovers about where their relationship is headed - YES! No spoilers, but they finally start to move ahead with their relationship. There was very little on the Cyrus storyline and the other members of Keystone didn't feature overly much compared to other books, with the exception of Shepherd, whose short segments about his new relationship with his son were just beautiful. One thing I LOVED in big shouty capitals? Houdini popped up a few times. I love his character and what he's bringing to the series and have really enjoyed him being in the last few books. I can't wait to see where this storyline goes. He wasn't in the book too heavily, unfortunately, but enough to tease readers with his enigmatic and strangely charismatic ways. He's the guy I hate to love. While there was no case being solved, this book gave me more substance on the characters I adore, so while it did track along a bit differently, it was still a fantastic read that fans should get a lot out of. There wasn't the extra drama that some of the former books have due to a problem being solved, but it still held my attention and I didn't want it to end. Like I said, it did deal more with Raven and Christian trying to figure out who and what they were in the grand scheme of things and what their future might be, but I really loved this angle. There wasn't too much action, but there's a scene towards the end that was freaking awesome and made me fall further in love with Keystone which I didn't even think was possible. I found that Raven made giant leaps in reconciling her past with her father to her future with Keystone. It was raw and emotional I can't flipping wait for the next book. To me, this series just keeps getting better and better with the storyline continually evolving and has firmly entrenched itself as one of my all-time favourites.
